I have memories of Westbourne Street and Mr and Mrs Riggs Shop, I always remember going in there and wanting a banana!
Great photos bring back many memories of when I lived in Stockton in the 1970s!

I remember Mrs Riggs shop well. We were the Brinkley girls from no 5. Lived next door to John Smith and his sisters Averil and Kathleen.Our GP was Dr Moody kind but stern. Can anyone remember the horse in the back ally? I think it belonged to Arthur Fry , he also had some carts that we used to climb on as kids.

Hi There, Avril here. I remember you! John and I still live in Teesside but Kathy lives in Somerset and has done for the last 6 years. Happy memories. Arthur Fry (wife Aggy!) did have a horse and cart, and we went into their house once. It was amazing! Full of all sorts of ornaments everywhere!

Yes the top left picture is Westbourne street, I know this because the one with the white fence at the end was right next door to the doctors, and I lived there until around 1975. The other end house was next to Outram street. The right hand picture was facing directly opposite our house, if you walked through the alley way, you would come out at Park road and mrs Riggs shop.

My memory of the Doctors was a big house on its own on the corner of Westbourne Street the entrance and Yarm Road, the Doctors were Dr Manners and Dr Ervine in 1930s. On the opposite side in Yarm Road was another Doctor with the surgery entrance in Westbourne street. Our Family Doctor was Dr manners a very nice person who used to visit us in our home when necessary

The top left picture is NOT Westbourne Street I lived in Shaftesbury Street until 1973 and this definateley is not Westbourne Street

yes i remember the doctors surgery as i had many visits to the delightful place, i used to see dr russel who was very helpful and helped me best he could, i always bought lots of sweets from mrs riggs shop too it was brilliant. its been wonderful reading all your comments and looking back at the old pictures, wow doesnt life change? anyway all the best folks . steve

i lived in this road,there was a doctors surgery right next door. over the road there was a alley way which we used to go through, to go to mrs riggs shop.lovely big house wish i had it now.

Mike Renwick – Is J.V.Smith still around ? He managed to convince my parents to let me go camping with him to Ingleton one summer weekend. They would have had kittens if they had seen where we ended up -exploring how far we could get underground, going down the various potholes, our only “equipment” being our candles!

Yes he is still around – Avril, his sister here!! Oh our parents would have kittens if they knew half of what we got up to. John still lives here in the north east as I do, Kathy is in Somerset – but we are all really well – how about you

My friend John Smith lived here with his parents & two sisters. Middle name was Vincent because his father was a motorcycle freak, owning three of them. At that time John”s father was an ICI Billingham employee & drove an Armstrong Siddley Sapphire which he filled to capacity, he was a big lad! During the war he had been an SOE operative & wore a blazer badge which depicte a knife with a knuckle duster hilt. John, himself a bit of an eccentric, later drove a 1949 Triumph Roadster 2000, as driven by John Nettles as Bergerac.

John has had a few other elderly (vintage) cars as well and is still a little eccentric. Happy times there in the attics and cellars. We had a brilliant childhood. Fabulous house for kids!
