  1. Just came across this post by accident. I was a Morris who lived in no. 15 Chalk St. and knew the Clamps well. Joan Best (Morris)

  4. Seeing the name Clamp brought back memories of a girl I used to be friendly with, her name was Joan Clamp, we both went to the Lightfoot Grove Baptist Church in Stockton. I think she was also related to a Derek Bales. What happened to these people?

  5. I THINK YOU ARE SPOT ON KEVIN, IT LOOKS LIKE THE TALBOT, AND THE ROAD THEY ARE CROSSING MUST BE THE SMALL ROAD THAT LED TO THE STAGE ENTRANCE OF THE GLOBE.

  6. Hi have found more possible Family in another Census.Talbot inn mentioned but in Traelger street Thornaby? Is the spelling wrong?Should it be Trafalger Street? They were named as Publicans in 1881,Edward Watkins and I am hoping he was married to Elizabeth Cann?

  7. Taking a closer look and a guess, that the photograph seems to be taken from the Mulberry Tree side with the Talbot pub in the back ground. My only clue is the marble columns which are visible, if it”s right, then it”s Norton Road leading South to the junction of the High Street/Church Road.

  8. This could be the northern end of the High St, where it is much narrower. i.e. in the vicinity of the North Eastern pub. In which case the open area seen in the right background would be the parish church grounds.

  9. This is an old photo of my wifes grandparents walking, we think, down Stockton High Street although the street in the picture may look too narrow. Rita”s father Albert Clamp was born in Stockton in 1905 so the photo should be at about that time – they having moved from Motherwell just before then. My wife and her family – name of Clamp – lived at 16 Chalk Street. She moved away about 1952 but the family remained there for about another ten years – just a guess. It”s really good to see Chalk Street again and read about the shops etc.
