  1. I worked at Dickens from 1976 to 1979 at Portrack Lane some of the names I remember working with are… I was in the garden centre….Malcolm Eden aka Adam Eden he had a slot on the local radio station Radio Tees, Oscar Drinkwater , Harry Jeal who was about 70 year old. Peter Frankland. I also remember Alan Watson, Ray Hughes aka Yogga, a big lad called chunkey can’t remember his proper name, George Cole, Brian Cole, Peter Cann a lad called Tarppy. Alan Shaw, Kevin Dawson, Les Beaton, Dennis Finn, anyone else slips my mind.

    • I worked there for a short time around that period, very much remember Adam/Malcolm who had to pop off to Radio Tees every so often, I also remember Harry who was certainly the elder statesman of the garden centre, I used to sit and have a cup of tea and chat with him in the greenhouse…I would get told my break was over and I should return to work asap but nobody ever told Harry to do anything, relly nice guy though and I had some great advice from him in those greenhouse chats, I also remember a couple of the radio tees DJs were regulars, I remember Dave Gregory and Alistair Pirrie ((Now sadly passed away) both being served as customers. I also have distant memories of one of the girls in the tea bar who bought me in a giant teddy bear from home which I had to carry all the way along Portrack lane into the middle of Stockton, to get it back to my place… I cant remember her name but she was really nice, great times, great memories, great people.

  2. I was a Saturday boy at Dickens in the mid 1970’s. There were a few of us from Grangefield Grammar School (David Truby, Paul Johnson, Colin Morgan I can remember). We were fed fish and chips at lunchtime and paid about £2 per day. I worked in the timber yard, cutting timber and loading customers cars (hopefully for a tip!)
