If you lived in Swainby or Danby rd this was your local. It was a great pub with some of the greatest lads, don’t think I ever went in for a couple and didn’t have a belly laugh at some joke or story and their was lots of both. I think the first time I went in the Jug for a pint it was with my uncle Franky (Casey). I already knew just about every one in the pub, all my mates drank in there – Carberrys/Littlefairs/Alisons/George Thomas/Brian Ransom/Denis Wilson, to name but a few. I always say to my family “never had a penny to my name but by god a bank full of great memories”. My mams family were the Tippeys who also used the Jug as their local.

My name is Anne Martin (nee Littlefair) my Dad Norman Littlefair and Uncle Ken Littlefair, used to go to the Brown Jug, I wonder if they were the Littlfairs that you knew? If so, I would love to hear any stories you may have, they have both passed away now, and I have been living in Canada for the past 30 years, if you can get in touch. Hi Anne, I remember you very well. I was the joiner that your father Norman recommended to do repairs to your house just off Trent Street bank before you moved to Canada. Your father I remember well. He was a plumber working for the Council and I think lived on the Sparks Bakery estate opposite the bakery. On many nights in the Brown Jug he would start the ‘sing song’ playing his mouth organ and an elderly chap I think from H’pool or Billingham would play the violin. Also your husband would also be there. 1980 surprised me but time does flash by without noticing.

Hello Anne Martin, Norman & Ken Littlefair are new one’s on me, I grew up with the Littlefairs in Swainby Road, I do know of an older brother called John Littlefair, he lived up on Norton Avenue way, but Ken & Norman – sorry they didn’t I’m sure go in when we all went in, perhaps you can give me a few more details on where they lived and around what time they would have been going into the Brown Jug,
