  1. Pamela Davies, it is such a long time since Roseworth and when we were kids – happy times. If you wish, you can obtain my email address through the site administrators.06/11/2011 02:43:14

  2. Edwin, hope you remember me, I was not as clever as you and attended what was then Roseworth Secondary Modern School. We spent most of our childhood together until you met Christine and I met Brian. Here we are still together after 44 years. Would love to find out how life has treated you and your family. We have also travelled, although never to Canada. We now live on the Isle of Wight. Will leave it at that and hope to hear from you in the not too distant future.

  3. Dennis Palfreeman – I do remember our time together at S&B Tech and at British Titan. Do you remember John McGee? I am still in contact with him. He and I worked together in the US and Canada for a while before he returned to Stockton. The Wimpy bar brings back happy memories. Do you remember the fruit machine and the tokens required. Christine would keep her eye on the payouts and give me the nod when it had not payed out for a while. I believe I came out ahead and was able to pay for a few beers with the proceeds. I don’t remember you going to Aycliffe, I thought you worked at Davey Ashmore in Stockton. If you are interested in corresponding, ask the site administrators for my email address. Take care and live young.

  5. Brian, Eric told me the other day that Colin wasn’t in our class, but the one
next door. Ian has already posted about his absence, he didn’t where he was either. Hope you are well ‘Spike’.

  6. Eric Harris stopped the traffic in Yarm today to tell me Gloria had posted our ‘mugs’. He didn’t tell me he couldn’t remember Michael Plaice who came from S Africa (I think) to join us for our last year at Newtown. Amazing how the names come back, but where were Ian Black (and Colin Close)?

  7. Yes Ed, I remembered it was Pittsburgh the second I pressed the send button. Dennis Palfreeman and I are in contact with each other, also Eric Harris.

  8. Hey Bill, it is great to have these threads from way back; thanks for adding. I do remember the interviews at the old Queens but they were for work in the USA. The agent was Mike Collins from Workforce, based in Ireland. A group of us from the Stockton area ended up in Pittsburgh and Toronto for a couple of years. A few names: John Mcgee, Ian Kersley, Malcolm Brunton, Dave Houghton, and maybe Dennis(?)Palfreman. Barry Whitfield I remember was a good friend of Ian. Happy days.

  9. Hi Ed, remember me from Stockton/Billingham Tech days? We used to finish night school then go to the Wimpole Bar, where your wife Christine worked, but that seems like a whole life-time ago now. We both started British Titan Products together in early 1970 but I didn’t stay long and moved to underground Mining Machinery in Newton Aycliffe because council houses were easier to obtain there, in those days.

  10. Hello Ed, Do you remember going to the Queens Hotel with myself & Ian Kersley, plus a few more whose names I forget, to a talk on jobs in Canada. I think this would coincide with your moving to Canada shortly after, along with Ian. Ian has been back on several occasions to have a few beers with Barry Whitfield and myself amongst others. Good luck Ed.

  11. My memory is not as good as many of my old classmates; very impressive. I remember all of your faces but not all names. I have lived out of the UK (Calgary, Canada) for more than 30 years and often visit the Picture Stockton site. Mr Carr was our teacher, I believe, and I certainly remember the sticks he had – Curly and Ginger – I can still feel the sting on my palms. I was not the best student in those days but I have had a succesful life regardless. My wife Christine (nee Teasdale) visits Stockton once in a while and maintains contact with some old pals from childhood. Stay well, active and young – good wishes to all.

  12. Hi Bill, Keith Burley we met at Grangefield, he probably attended Holy Trinity or he may have arrived in the area at that time. They were good days at Newtown, it would be nice to see everybody again.

    • Hi Eric,
I have just come across this website when idly googling about Newtown School.
Both you and Bill Mann have got things slightly awry. I remember most of these names ( and some of the faces). I am not on the photo as my family left Stockton in August 1958 (immediately before you all moved up to Mr Carr’s class) but most of us had been in the same class together taught consecutively by Miss Denton, Mr Wadsworth and Miss Dinning.
It is a long time since Gloria submitted this photo so I will not be surprised if nobody reads my comments.

  13. Eric, you got the lot, including one I got wrong – last row 3rd from right, John Honeywell, it comes back to me now. Where did I get Keith Burley from? any ideas?

    • Thank you for the memories Gloria. I am Pat, next to you in the photo. I also have a photo with the country dance team from that year when they won a large shield in Darlington.

  15. Although I did not attend Newtown, some of the names register with me as they moved on to Grangefield Grammar School. I used to live opposite Ian Black and next door to me were twins, Ian and Terry Armstrong (I think) who both went to Newtown and would have been in this year group. Brian Braithwaite acquired the name Norman when he got to Grangefield.

  16. Memory? I cannot remember why I was missing from this class photograph, but I can remember it was Brian (not Ian) Braithwaite as there were not many of us ‘Ians’ about… All good wishes to the year group: particularly the country dancers who are mentioned elsewhere on this site.

  17. Bill – it’s Ian Braithwaite. We dont do bad for memory for OAPs do we? My daughter Sarah is part of the Picture Stockton Team and I think its great (even though I may be a little biased)
