These are pictures of my grandparent’s House at 42 Cecil Street. The first picture was taken in 1911 and shows my grandmother in the window. The two young girls are my aunts and the baby is my father. The other picture is the same place; my aunts and Dad slightly older. 42 Cecil Street was also the Labour Party offices for Parkfield ward for many years.

I lived in Cecil Street in the mid 1960’s, at number 5 I think. I remember one of my young friends from those days was a Pauline Chesworth. My surname was Black.

I don’t think it was number 5, Elizabeth. I grew up in 5 Cecil Street, living there from 1950 (when I was 4) till about 1967 when I got a place of my own, my parents (Arthur & Jean Oakley) lived there till the house was compulsorily purchased around that time and they moved to Hardwick.

I lived in 58 Cecil Street next door to the Neale family. It was a spiritualist long before it became a bingo.

My husband’s grandparents had a large house in Cecil St, I believe it was 2 houses (60/62) combined. The upper floor called the Lyceum was used for Spiritulist meetings in the 30s and 40s, their names were George and Maud Neale.

WASN’T THE END HOUSE OF CECIL STREET USED FOR BINGO PLAYING ON THE TOP FLOOR? IT WAS ALSO KNOWN AS THE BIG HOUSE.

What a wonderful photo of Cecil Street, my mother was born at number 20 in 1921 and it is lovely to see what the houses looked like as they are now gone.
