Two photographs taken by Jack Marriot showing the Queen Mother and entourage visiting the gymnasium in the new YMCA building on Bath Lane, Stockton in 1968.
I’m pretty sure that the YMCA had a climbing wall that we used to go on when I was young. Later on we played 5 a side there and sometimes tried to play snooker in the upstairs rooms.
I used to go to the disco at the Y.M.C.A. in 74/75 I never saw the Queen Mother there but there were some dancing queens… (sorry it was just a little bit of humour)!

It looks like they put a boardwalk alongside the wall, so that the shoes of the vistors would not damage the floor of the sports hall.

This is the visit when the gymnast Angus MacDonald was badly injured and the YMCA five a side football played for a trophy named in his honour.
