  1. First ever gig at Stockton ABC (Globe) The Who performed the entire ‘Tommy’ Rock Opera and some of their well known hits, I remember Roger Daltrey swinging the mic lead in a circular motion before chucking it 20 ft in the air and catching it on cue for vocal. The Who were supported by The James Gang who impressed Townsend & Co so much on their US tour, they brought them over to support their British tour, the Gangs lead guitarist was future Eagles legend Joe Walsh…still remember #funk49

  2. I saw T Rex live at this venue, I think it was 1972 but could have been 73, a great night out. One point of great note was the large numbers of girls from Grangefield Grammar in attendance and their behaviour was far from what I think their school expected 🙂 I felt truly sorry for the security staff especially those round the back who almost got torn to pieces by the Grangefield gals.

    • It’s 45 years ago today since I saw Marc Bolan with T.Rex at Stockton ABC (Globe) on 4th November 1971.
I was 17 and attended with my sister Lorna 15, her boyfriend Peter Beeston and my girlfriend Kay Marsay, who idolised Marc. We were all enthralled by Marc’s performance, he really had a magnetic stage presence and tons of charisma and boy could he play guitar!

I remember standing outside with my mates with our backs to the theatre when the pictures for the next weeks films where in glass cases on the wall, when a certain Sergeant Elliot came up and asked what we were up to. We told him we were looking at the pictures to which he replied then you must have eyes in your **** now get out of here. We saw some great shows there over the years

    • Dave, You were only one of many with Sergeant Elliot, you didn’t mess with him, he stood no nonsense outside the Maison or the Jube, if you had any sense you moved on, he would have loved todays youths, but the do gooders would have got him stopped.

      • Believe it or not, Sgt Elliott at home in the police houses in Swainby Road was a loving family man. He was known to make his daughters dresses and was very at knitting.

  5. My claim to fame.. I was in the snack bar over the road, Petes buying some takeaway cooked chicken portions and there was a group of young men sat at the counter eating when one of them turned round to hand me my order – it was Hank Marvin. Stood for hours for tickets over the years. Happy days..

    • Back in the olden days (as my grandchildren call them) My parents managed the Castle and Anchor right across the road from the Globe and we saw and met many of the stars of that golden era. Stars like Joseph Locke, Al Martino, Harry Seacome. Frankie Vaughn, Lita Rosa, Ken Platt and the Fraankie Franks pantomimes were hard to beat. Incidentally, does anyone out there remember the Quinn family (mine) Jack, Kathleen (parents) John, Pat, Mary and Mardi (Margaret.W would be pleased to hear from anyone from that era)

      • I used to work with a Mary Quinn, Nicholsons Wholesalers, Mary worked in the telephone office whilst I worked as a invoice filing clerk. That would be about 1960…We went out socially a few times.
