Mr Grace was a lovely kind teacher even though I was rubbish at French. Miss Stevans was tough but also a fantastic teacher. Names I recall from my year are Helen Coyle, Joyce Naylor, Gaynor Myers, Brenda Keeble Brenda Dowdell, Maureen Coupe Jackie Zucca Susan Plummer Margaret Dixon. I left after lower sixth to join police cadets.

I’ve just come across this site and photo and giggled when I found myself on it. I’m on the bottom row, down from Mr. Ellis and fourth along to the left. My name is Barbara Waugh (Walton then) and I recognise a few of my class mates; Susan King, Susan Daniels, Elaine Wright and Melanie Johnson. I also recall Janice Ellis, Janice Glew, Shirley Fletcher, Kathleen Todd and Jennifer Dinsdale as being in my year but cannot find them on the photo. Miss Stevens put the fear of God into us girls and I hated having maths with her as I struggled with anything beyond basic arithmetic. My favourite teacher was Miss French (PE)

I have a copy of this photograph and was showing it to the grandchildren recently!! I am on the second row from the top and am still in touch with a few people – Sheila Chipchase, Pamela Richie, Gilliam Swift. I have many vivid memories of my schooldays at Grangefield and yes we did get a good education, Happy days!

I am on the photograph and recognise most of the girls in my year. Think I was in 4th or 5th form at the time.

I am on this photograph and have the original 😊 I’m on the 4th row just behind Mr Ellis and to the right (on the picture) to the girl with the dark top on. I look so young (well we all do!) but can recognise and remember lots of names… some I am still in touch with, which is both amazing and rather wonderful 😊. A very happy time and a brilliant school.

I left summer 1965, after A levels – don’t recognise any peers on this, so assume it was taken September 1965 onwards

Left out Mrs Wood from the list of teachers.. she’s between Mr Wood and Mrs Estruch and I spotted myself sitting in front of and between Mr & Mrs Wood on the second row. To the left of centre and in line with the set of three windows on the high section of the building. So great to see this photo again. Only ever saw it on display in the school.

Wondered what happened to you Elaine Wray? I last saw you in a dance club (discotheque in those days) in Redcar and also The Kirk outside Yarm? Back when you and I lived in Hartburn, Stockton-on-Tees.

I have a copy of this photo so I know where I am on it! Most of my form take up the top right back row and the row in front to roughly half way. The lady to the right of Miss Newman was Mrs Pursey (incredible Maths teacher) not Perry. I can remember quite a lot of the girls in my year on here and I know one or two in the other years. We are in the winter uniform so it’s either before the Easter break of 65 or after the summer hols – so I would have been either still in the 4th or just starting in the 5th year preparing for ‘O’Levels in the Summer of ’66!

I left Grangefield several years before this photograph was taken. The only teacher’s names I recognise in my time there were, Mr Nuttall, Mr Hodgson, Mrs Atkinson, Misses Stevens, Styan and Dubbin, so many changes within the staff.

My sister – Susan Owles – attended Grangefield Grammar and was there in 1965 aged 13. I have tried to look for her on the picture but can’t make her out. We lived in Thornaby but she still came home for dinner getting two buses. I do remember the uniform guidelines were quite strict but my sister always turned the skirt over at the waist and wore the beret at the wrong angle. The only girl I can remember from then was called Christine Chapman. Will have to dig out a magnifying glass as it would be lovely to find her on the picture.

Hi Christine I am Christine Chapman. Your sister Susan was my best friend and we were both 13 at the time of this picture. Probably in second form but searching the rows and cannot identify us yet. Yes school rules were very strict but on hindsight great school and education.
