Mr Tom Smith had his watch making and jewellery shop where Martins the Newsagents is on the High Street on the opposite side of the High Street from the school. There was a side window to the shop in the back street from the High Street. I used to watch him for hours when he at work with his eye glass magnifying glass faced on one of his eyes. In those days I was a delivery boy and took their weekly ration to the house where the door was also in the back street. His wife would always give me six pence, in those days a lot of money for a kid.
Wonderful picture, would be great to know who all these people are.

Tom Smith had a brother who played the clarinet and they both played in the Theatre in Yarm Lane that burned down in the 1920s.
