Mostly agricultural for hundreds of years, Hartburn had input to the shipyards of Stockton during the sailing-ship era Flax , for the making of linen sail-cloth was harvested from the Hartburn-Beck. A Rope-Works exsisted on the present land oppisite Harpers Terrace
