  1. Why oh why do planners have to destroy our buildings and interfere with the facades. Why do they think people like me visit web sites like yours? it is lovely to see old photos of past times oh! what Stockton could have looked like if they had left things alone.

  2. I fully agree with the comments of Robert Dicken and R.Harbron.That so many magnificent buildings were demolished to make way for concrete rubbish was and is a disgrace. Thankfully I left Stockton before this “development” took place so I have only memories of the High Street as it was in the 1960`s.

  3. Chester House on the High Street early 1700 with garret additions. This was the High Street roof line for almost 100 years “Enders” local “Tilery” bricks, laid across in this building were of the same era as the Parish-Church 1711 and Town-Hall 1735. That this wanton destruction was allowed in the name of Progress was beyond belief.

  4. Why did we let the developers destroy buildings like this and replace them with concrete blocks? Many of the facades around here were were worth keeping, the buildings at the back could still have been re-developed. When will the planners ever learn that tourist and local people love buildings with character.
