  1. The CO removal process used a copper liquor in scrubbing towers, the green/blue colour is apparent on some of the plant in the photo.

  2. Thanks Frank. I understand that in the early days of the Haber Bosch process, water was used to remove the carbon dioxide which resulted from the reaction to make hydrogen. As many people know, carbon dioxide dissolves fairly well in water and is the basis fro lemonade and other sparkling drinks.

    The big problem is that a lot of water had to be circulated, and this is why MEA,DEA and then Benfield processes came into use.

  3. That was an old Plant Fred, ICI produced their own electricity so a water or saline solution was used DEA and MEA came in much later.
    By products of the scrubbing would be Urea as residual cleaner before the Ammonia went to storage.
    The CO2 removal was still in use in my time though the new Steam Reform Ammonia plants were up and running. most of the old system had long gone by then.
