I was associated with the Endeavour replica for many years. I can confirm that it is most definitely afloat. Quite often during windy days the movement of the ship was noticeable. When the quayside was being rebuilt, the vessel had to be moved (around 1995)and was drifted into a temporary position. Also, in the early days before completion of The Tees Barrage, the river was still tidal and the ship was allowed to rise and fall with the tide. 29/02/2012 10:46:58
The boat that is berthed at Castlegate Quay, if I remember rightly, sits on a cradle that’s fixed to the river bed just like RNVR Ship Calliope, probably wrong spelling, based on the Tyne. Stockton Sea Cadets, when they were based in Bowesfield Lane, used to have to small craft moored where the Endeavor sits also J.L. Robson, who had a garage at St Johns crossing, also had an MFV (Motor Fishing Vessel)that would take so many Cadets on trips abroad. Great times indeed. 28/02/2012 19:44:29
The copy of the Endeavour ‘berthed’ at Castlegate Quay is a full size replica of the Whitby built collier used by Captain Cook on his journeys of exploration. Unlike the original, it has a steel hull, masts and spars and, to my knowledge, sits on the riverbed… it isn’t actually afloat.28/02/2012 15:34:40

Is the ship at the docks the replica of Captain Cooks ‘Endeavour’? 27/02/2012 18:25:45
