  1. The brick and stone parapet has been removed in readyness for demolition. The debris can be seen on the ground in one of the pictures.

  2. I was present in 1979 when the Viaduct was razed to the ground. I was in a field with my 2 sons at Blakeston Lane on the opposite side of Durham Road. My friend who was an Inspector in the Police did the commentary on the procedure. His name was Randy Walton.

  3. Went on a walk to here with my sister when I was four years old in 1963. It was a long way from Ilkeston Walk on the Hardwick Estate!. We moved to Torquay a year after. Don”t remember too much about it but I know now why I had scary dreams about arches for sometime after..Looking at the picture is scary now. Taken me till I am 48 to work it out. Thanks.. time for bed errrrr! Oh by the way.. my dad called it the 21 Arches.
