  1. I used to go to Wellington Street and corner of High Street every Saturday morning without fail to buy pikelets for a guy called Norman Holmes who used to sell them from his cart. They were out of this world. I used to smother them with best butter. Boy were they good. I wonder where Norman Holmes is now. I got to know him over a period of time and he was quite a character. he was a great dancer showing of his talents at the Maison de Dance and the music of Jack Marwood

  2. My Grandmother Ethel May Bradshaw was born at 25 Wellington Street in 1898. I guess it has been demolished now. I think her grandfather was a furniture dealer somewhere in Stockton.

  3. The Robinson/Debenhams tower was/is a strange place to store water – it was quite unusual when first installed as it stores water for the fire sprinkler system. As a new employee in 1965 it was my job to test the sprinkler system with my boss. The system had to be pressurised with a hand pump after testing and took almost three hours of “hard labour”- usually my job.
