s1001A general view of the High Street, Stockton showing a typical busy market day. Also seen is a steam tram – steam trams operated in Stockon from October 1881 until November 1897.

  1. Having browsed the archive and found this picture I would suggest it proves the tramlines were to the East of the Town Hall. The shambles are quite clear as is the tower of the Church further down towards the North of the High Street. Note the single track into Bridge Road and the double track passing run through the high street. This would make the picture of the high street discussion prior to this posting and almost from the same view point, much older than the Steam Trams 1881 to 1897?
