A colour postcard showing the Town Hall, Thornaby-on-Tees showing people in the foreground and a flag flying

My father was born 39 Gilmour Street in Thornaby I wondered if any one had any photos of this street? I also wondered if any body new a family by the name of Skerratt?
A wonderful building . I visited during the the “Thornaby Now” meetings and was suprised on the size of the rooms, which were both vacant and in some ways neglected. Refurbished, new life could return to this ancient town, known as far back as 1200 , as Thornaby now the centre of New/old Thornaby and the still growing Tees-Dale. with its University and housing , not the isolation it became when Thornaby moved to the Aerodrome site. Re the flag I believe it is a printers out of proportion addition as I”ve seen similar dated cards , without flag or flag-pole
I was intrigued to see a Red Ensign being flown above Thornaby Town Hall. The Red Ensign can be flown on “Merchant Navy Day” which is on 3 September, but as this event was only started in 2000 it does not explain the presence of this flag on a postcard which bears a 1908 postmark ! Assuming this is not a flag that was added by the printer – what other occasion might it have been flown from the Town Hall ?
I have a copy of this card which was never sent to me .
I have a copy of this post card… In 1982, after the council had long moved out, I shared an office in the building, my desk was situated in the window at the front below the clock. Many a good time was had whilst I worked there.
