  1. I believe that the bakery in question belonged to my great grandfather. Eric Ord, My Grandfather was born in the house above the shop!

  2. Hidden behind the tree in the centre of the picture was Ords Bakery. Just to the right of the shop was an alleyway which led to the Bakery. There was an old man called John who had a club foot and delivered bread and cakes to customers in the Redwing Lane and Junction Road area as far as Ashville Avenue. He pushed a Boxed Cart which had 2 shafts on it and the goods were kept inside the box. I was about 7 at the time and I would help him. He would then pull the cart with me pushing at the rear. I used to get a currant loaf for my troubles.

  3. Dr Willans a local Practioner lived at the big house behind the walled garden on the top right. The car may have been his latest which succeeded the silver Sunbeam Rapier. Norton had some wonderful Doctors, at the top of the list for me was the late Dr Edith Armitage, without whos help the quility of my life would have been very poor. Thanks also to people like Mr Robert Harbron, Norton is still a very pleasent village in 2004. Bob and I were at the Frederic Natterass School together in 1934. Despite more wealth today I think we had the best times for quality of life.
