I may be wrong, but I seem to remember my father telling me that Gunners barbers was under Hepworths and was developed from the old Air Raid shelter that used to be there. The entrance was to the shelter was in front of the shop??
My father”s friend from Stockton, Arthur Law, had a car like this at around this time. The thing that sticks out in my mind is that it had ridged finger slots all the way around the inside of the white steering wheel. Strange things that a child notices!
You are right Graham Gunners barber shop was under Hepworths, the owner/manager was a Mr.Henri,I was a regular there, he shaved me a few times, then when finished applied hot towels to my face, felt marvelous.

Gunners barbers shop was definitely under Hepworths. Bought my first suit in Hepworths and had my first semi-crew cut in Gunners during the 1950″s
