The Swallow Hotel, Stockton (opened 1973) included in a general view of John Walker Square in the Castle Centre on Stockton High Street. This was previously the site of the Castle (later Empire) Theatre and before 1650 the site of Stockton Castle. Several different businesses can be seen in the background Tesco, W.H.Smith, Northern Gas Showroom and Radio Rentals. c1974

I remember as a Kid coming down to Stockton from Thornaby and going to the cigarette booth ( I wasn”t buying cigs it was my mum 🙂 and also if my memory serves me right one of the booths sold scratch cards? Even when I was older I used to like sitting in John Walker square and I think it is a shame its gone in the name of progress.
