John Greens hardware shop in West Street, Stockton

John Green was a tin-smith, (a sheet-metal worker). His business was in West Street Stockton, (now the site of a large take-away behind Wellington Square). John Green was repairing and renewing metering cases for Stockton Corporation Gas-works, as well as churns and milk-measure jugs, ducting and ventilation systems, including dressing-room ventilation for the Globe-Theatre, in the late 1940s .   2. The name on the shop appears to be John Green. According to the Trades Directory for 1899/1900, John Green was a tinsmith in Middle Street, although he lived in Park Terrace South. There is no further mention of him in Middle Street, although a John Green is mentioned in Park Terrace South in 1894 as a foreman mechanic. In 1908, Mrs. John Green is living at the same address, suggesting that she might be his widow.
