The whaler Southern Ventura was built at Haverton Hill shipyard by North Eastern Marine and owned by Chris Salveson & Co.Ltd. The keel was laid on 28th July 1944 and the ship was launched on 11th June 1945.

It states, ‘Southern Georgia, Southern Venturer, Whaling Expedition,Antarctic 1945-46’
Susan, does that mean that your Grandfather may have served on the Southern Venturer?
I was a Savesen engineer cadet on Southern Venturer season 1956-57
My father worked on the Southern Venturer.
My Grandfather worked there 🙂
My father was aboard the Southern Venturer in 1948. He was an upper saloon boy. He worked with a Norwegian boy called Fritz. They gave the crew English and Norwegian lessons. They were the youngest lads aboard.
