Stockton Wharf – This is the original end of the Stockton & Darlington Coal off-load. A number of 1800s drawings and paintings, seen on this web-site show the cranes and traffic in this area. It is still possible (2006 ) to see these 180 year old timber supports from the walk-way by H.M “Endeavour” and Castlegate sailing-centre, you can also see a mast which was used at one time as a repair to the staging. While in the area note the Victoria Bridge barge-arch (West) which allowed passage of horse-drawn vessels from Yarm. The West Arch is now now sealed off, but the East arch and path still open
Surely this view is from Victoria Bridge looking down river. The building on the left is now occupied by Netto.
Photo taken from Victoria Bridge, the derelict wharfe was Camerons Wharfe, Barges would bring barrels of beer from Camerons Brewery H/pool. and take empties back. Camerons offices were on Bridge Rd. next to the bridge. You can see NETTO”s and the clock where some bingo hall is.
