That is the East bay of the Heavy Fabrication Shop. In the top corner to the right is the doorway to the Boilersmiths annex and the old heavy shearing machine is also to the right of the picture. Next to this was the West bay and then the Convertor shop. At the North end of the West bay the explosive expanding took place on the tubed boilers. This is an old picture probably in the fifties and shows a Boilersmith chipping and probably another Boilersmith grinding, you can see the windy pipes on the floor.
I am certain this photo depicts a working scene in the Plater`s Shop not the Foundry. I only visited this place to visit fellow-apprentices and I remember the noise level was deafening.

It is definitely not a foundry, it is a fabrication shop with all the fabricated vessels.
I think this is actually the converter shop which was attached to the platers shop
