My dad used to take me for walks along the riverbank off to the left of that big chimney in the early 70″s. About 600 yards along on the waste ground there was a small, derelict, concrete hut that had the remains of 2 rails inside (as in railway tracks). It just stood there alone with nothing else around it. Many years later I and 2 friends used it as a place to hang out and it hadn”t changed one tiny bit. Does anybody have any idea what on earth that concrete hut was in the past? Was it part of a tunnel or something for shunting goods or something around a factory perhaps? It has always played on my mind. I wonder if it”s STILL there now?
The chimney and the large building next to it was the power station for the tramway.
