The Queen”s car is a Daimler, much favoured by the royal family from the time King George V; and appears to be the car used by her father. However the Queen preferred Rolls-Royce so the Daimlers disappeared…
As an eleven year old I also remember walking from Newtown school to Oxbridge Avenue to see the Queen pass by. I also remember the dust cart in front of the parade, all us kids cheered like mad when we saw it. Funny what things stick in your mind!!
Remember this visit well as a young boy being allowed out from school at Newtown and walking to Oxbridge Avenue to see the “Queen” pass by I was 7 years old at the time but still have great memories of how we all began to cheer as the “cars” were coming only to find a garbage truck had sneaked well in front of the parade by accident. When the Queen went by so quickly we all said “is that it”. How strange what we remember from our childhood when reminded – great site keep up the good work Steve and crew.
I was interested to see the comment of Ian Black. My wife and I were present at the ceremony, since I was a member of the Council. I travelled to London on Council business, on several occasions with Mr. Howarth, the Town Clerk. We became good friends. It would be nice to hear from your wife Ian. I will leave my email address with someone in charge of this site.
The Queen unveiled the plaque on the Town Hall to commemorate her visit- was it in 1956? Notably, the royal couple left on board the Royal Yacht Britannia. Shown on the dais is Stockton”s Town Clerk, John Bromley Haworth and his wife Hilda: my wife”s parents.

Is it possible to see any photos of Stockton”s old train station, after all this is where it all started
