Bill (definitely “Scottie”, so called because we were a Scots family) was my older brother and I agree with Len, this picture looks more like his early playing days at Stockton 1946/7. During the war Bill and older brother James worked at Davy Ltd near Middlesbrough in a reserved occupation and played for Hartlepool United FC as a part time professional.
I can confirm that Bill Russell”s nickname was “Scotty” probably because he came from Scotland, and not “Frenchy” as indicated. He was my father and died in 1989.
It’s a long time ago since I last saw Arthur so I’m not sure.
Is Alf Rhodes in this team photo, maybe Ken or Peter can recognise him.

I don”t think this Stockton team is late fifties, because Billy Russell was in the Stockton team that resumed competitive football after the war 1945.
Billy (Frenchy) Russell, who was chairman of Norton & Stockton Ancients, is 2nd left front-row.
