  1. Anthony, was it the LC1 that you father was on? She and Gallions Reach were among the many vessels managed by Risdon Beazley on behalf of the Admiralty in WW2.

  2. my father served on the LV1 heavy lift ship during the war i understand that it used to be the galleons reach belonging to risden & beasley and was taken over by the navy during the war is this the same ship?

  3. I was working at the shipyard at the time this happened, we were working on the shell of the Capulett it was a falling tide and the dredger was cleaning out the basin and settled onto some poppets that hadn”t been recovered from a previous launch. We watched it sink. I also watched its recovery by a Dutch salvage barge Tacklift 2 sometime later. I”ve just noticed its dated c1965 I think its about 10 years after that date

  4. Yes, it was the dredger Galleons Reach which had been dredging the fitting out basin. I believe it struck some structure, possibly a discarded launch attachment. I recall that it sank in minutes.

  5. Are you sure that it is a tug? At about that time, a dredger “Gallions Reach” sank in the Furness basin. perhaps it is her.
