The doorway between Martins Bank & the Lambton Castle was the entrance to the local courts.
The site occupied by Coral Bookmakers was once the site on which Merediths Bakers and Cafe used to be. My grandmother was a cook in the kitchen at the rear of Merediths cafe.This exited on King Street. Next to Merediths and on the corner was a small family owned shoe shop. As a small child just after the war I was made to wait in the bread queue by my mother until she came back. I lost her place while playing with a friend and got my backside kicked as there was no bread left when she returned. Oh happy day”s.
