  1. This photo shows the front of the building known as the Borough Hall, but the hall itself was a separate building that was constructed at the rear of the premises. The Stockton architect W.Clephan arranged for the conversion of the house into offices and the new hall. The hall measured 80ft long x 36ft wide and was 36ft high. The yard between the rear of the house and the hall was glazed over and measured 72ft x 23 ft. According to Richmond’s ‘The local records of Stockton…’ the hall was used for public meetings, bazaars, sales, assemblies, concerts, and lectures.

  2. This looks like the old Borough Hall which was situated and the west side of the High Street on the site where the 1960s Post Office stands today not far from Yarm Lane Corner. It was originally the home of a Mr. Richard Dickson. Stockton Reference Library holds many old Rates Books which give the owners names of many of Stockton”s old buildings.
