  1. Ropner park, a great benefit for the People of Stockton who deserved some relaxation and fresh air after a hard weeks work. I recall being taken in my pram around the lake and fountain by my dear Mam. Looking for fish and feeding the ducks. Happy days and simple pleasures.

  2. Was it really called the Castle Fountain? – I wonder why? Mention of the Putting Green takes me back to the 1950s, when there were two different courses, one was for children and the other for adults? There were three old timers who used to sit on the bench by the putting hut and have a game now and again. Messrs Porteous (with his huge white moustache), Porritt (with his rather ample girth)and Harris with his battered tweed hat. Wonderful old characters who knew every bump on those ‘fairways’. And what about the old wooden putters in the hut, most players had their own favourite club. That is until they brought in those horrid aluminium ones with the blue, ribbed platic handles.

  3. Am I right in saying to the left of this picture was the Putting Green. I remember the little hut with the old boy inside. This was a great park in the seventies and its not until now you realise the fountain is a lovely feature of the park, back then you just took it for granted it was there and didn’t take much notice of how nice it really was.
