It was once the Conquest’s ladies hairdressers, owned by Victor and Gladys, their only son Lyle passed away about six weeks ago in Hove, Sussex where he lived, Gladys was one of my mother’s sisters.
Hi I’ve taken on the salon recently and looking for old photos of it as a salon to put up on the wall. I believe its been a salon for over 70 years.
Under several names style wise, oddies, conquest.
I remember all of the Conquest family, not forgetting their dog Trixie, an Airedale who often lay on the pavement outside of the shop. It was my mum’s hairdressers as we lived in Waverley, the street shown on the photo. The car belonged to one of our neighbours. Sad news about Lyle, he was a little younger than me but I clearly remember him, often part of a gang of friends.
Conquests hairdressers looking up to Waverley Street where I lived for many years. Greg lived over the road from my parents. I remember very happy childhood days here, a nice neighbourhood, friendly people.
If that’s Conquests they had a son called Lyle and one of very few cars about, opposite was Blenkinsops grocers.

Think this shop used to be North’s the bakers when I was little. I’m now 63. My mum bought my pram off the owners when she was having me.
I think this view is Dennison St looking up Waverley St. I lived there between 1978 to 1983. Nice times.
