The above is a much clearer repeat of t1657 = Corporation Quay, c. 1880. The photo shows the ferry landings on the Stockton side of the river with the impressive Cleveland Row terrace block in the background. The Ship Launch Inn was sited down on the Quayside just off the left edge of the photo. My late shipbuilding relatives called it the Ship Lunch Inn for obvious reasons. The left hand steps led to Smithfield and have been painted by Batty in s479 = The Steps, Smithfield, Stockton, c.1911. On the extreme right of the photo are buildings of the Ropner Shipbuilding Company.
