The driver of a new 7 ton tipper receives instructions from the transport manager at Ashmore-Benson, Pease.
I remember Tom Clarke from my platers apprentice ship days from 1936 in Ashmores Bowesfield Lane, he was the Stockyard Manager at that time. I worked on the angle and flat cutting machine and had to see Tom when I required Material, he would organise everything as some of the material was ordered in special lengths so there was no waste, he would see that all the steel was sent to my machine for cutting to various lengths. I always found him to be a very pleasant and helpful Guy.
Does anyone remember an Office Manager, Mr Hewitt, who represented the company in India and was killed in a car accident over there between 1948 and 1951 either on site or close by?
The man stood next to the tipper was Tommy Clarke who was the transport manager when I joined ABP in 1950
