  1. I totally agree with you Benny regarding Brian Armstrong’s garden being exceptionally nice. Brian also played for Durham City & Billingham Synthonia, but along with Ken Williamson they were great ambassadors for Norton Cricket Club Trust.

  2. Anon, these houses in Countisbury Road as can be seen back onto the Norton CC Sports Fields, there lives Brian Armstrong who would be remembered as the Captain of Norton CC and a Stockton AFC footballer of the Sixties. Brian has a gate in his back fence onto these fields, Brians Garden is on two blocks and must be one of the best House gardens in England, it is really magnificent. Brian is also a keen bird watcher and feeds a couple of families of Woodpeckers which are a delight to observe from from Brians kitchen window. Many Stocktonians will remember Brian as their Solicitor, when they either purchased or sold their house, as he worked for many years for David Townsend, another famous Norton cricket personality. Brian told me the amusing story of the day he was riding his bike past the Golden Gates of the Wynyard Estate just after Sir John Hall had purchased the property from Lord Londonderry. Brian was having a rest just outside the Golden Gates, when along comes Sir John Hall and tells Brian in a very loud and aggressive geordie voice, ‘You cannot come in here’. Brian replied that he had no intention of ‘coming in here’ in his best imitation geordie accent, which did not please Sir John as Brian rode off into the sunset!

  3. The houses in the background of this photo are in Countisbury Road & where the spectators on the right of the photo are stood, a stand has now been built.

  4. This ground staged a FA Carlsberg National League System Cup game on the 26th Sept between the Teesside League v Cambridgeshire League, which a very good Cambridge side won 3-1, they beat the Wearside League in the previous round 2-1.They reached the final in 2004 & 2006. The Teesside League beat the Nottinghamshire League 1-0 in the previous game.
