Sadly Bucannan Street is to be demolished sometime this year. Great shame, good houses lost forever in the name of regeneration. You might be very interested to know Buchanan Street was used by a german film company, ironically because of their poor shape, as a backdrop for scenes of war torn London.
This back alley is the same as the ones that were round the Gashouse area, apart from Airton Street who had narrow alleyways.
My Grandmother lived in no. 58 Buchanan Street in the 1940- 1950 era and I have lots of memories of that time before we emigrated to a Australia in the early 1950″s. I returned in August to Stockton in 2004 to see these familiar places again and the house is still as it was in those times . Maureen Baldwin
