Hi yes, this was my late Grandma’s shop. Mary Hopkins (nee Kelly). It was a general dealers and off license. The place was pulled down when I was still a kid. Paddy is my Dad, and yes it’s his real name, though baptised Patrick.
Is your Dad the Paddy Hopkins who went to Castlehead in Grange Over Sands in the 50s? He was actually from Thornaby so perhaps it’s a different Paddy Hopkins.
Was the lady from this shop really known as ‘Scotch Betty Hopkins’ as Paul said, as I seem to remember her as having a broad Irish accent and one of her sons being known as ‘Paddy’ – although I don’t think that was his real name.
Anyone have a picture of Millers Place?
What did this shop sell?
My only memory of what they sold was confectionery – but probably groceries also.
