This plant is currently being dismantled/ demolished after being mothballed in 2001, the 4 stacks you can see in the picture on top of the reformers have now gone, you can see the cranes from Haverton Hill road/ Belasis Avenue doing the work.
Some more names of the original instrument team Tom McCue (supervisor), Les Carlin, Geoff Richardson, Jim Stevens (shop steward), Fred Douglas, Stewart Moss, Ian Bell, Rob Holmes.
I was a Instrument Technician involved with the Commissioning and Start-up of the #2 Methanol Plant in Billingham. I remember many good people working there especially, John Stoney, Harry Cone, Tommy ??, Baz Waddington, Ron Vickers, Les ?? all excellent people. We started-up the plant and within a week the plant exceeded flow sheet capacity before a Technician doing routine checks caused a shutdown of the Turbo compressor but, all safeties operated and the plant shutdown but, kept the “Steam Reform Units” (2)running while venting the “Make” gas to Flare. Unfortunately, a Steam relief valve opened and couldn”t be shocked closed so, the whole plant had to be shutdown. The positive was that all safeties proved themselves and many white faces had a smile of satisfaction
What is the current status?

Bit vague, but think I was involved with the trip test, went off to Holland with Baz just after, they were the good old days.
