  1. Both of my grandfathers served in the army in the first world war. Abraham Bell who came home after a trip on a hospital ship. Which I am told was sunk by the Germans on one of the trips from France. He served on Thornaby council for a number of years and died in 1976. Ernest James Rudd served in the army from 1904 and discharged with wounds,l ater his leg was amputated he served with the 2nd battalion Yorkshire Regiment in 1916 he died in 1932.
