  1. I well remember the army surplus store & the Pet shop before that. However my only regret is that the modernisation destroyed the line of the terrace. My mothers family had this shop as a fish shop & eating room between 1923 & 1937 Walter Sunley was my grandfather later having a fish shop in Alison Street. Does any one know of photos of either.

  2. I attended Saint Mary”s junior school and so remember the pet shop and the large white parrot very well. At lunch time and on the way to school in the morning we used talk to it and poke our fingers through the bars of its cage which more often than not resulted in a nasty bite to said finger. Living in Australia I now realise that the white parrot was in fact a cockatoo hundred of which spend their days in and around our garden in the northern suburbs of Sydney. They are known for biting if you get too near or irritate them!!!!!! Ah well, you live and learn.

  3. I remember the Army Surplus Store quite well. You could get almost anything you wanted. I used to think it was a Aladdin”s Cave. About 1973 when I was a young lad of 17 years. I got a 7″ knife in a leather sheath and took it away on my camping trips. I”ll never dream of doing that now.

  4. The shop next to the pharmacy. I think it used to be the army surplus store many years ago. I also think it was a pet shop at some time. when you went in the shop there was a large white parrot. Can anyone remember these shops being open and what year this might have been?

  5. Victoria Terrace . An excellent piece of restoration work in the 1970s, when the town itself suffered from its historic heart demolition. Some will recall these buildings as Stockton-on-Tees School Medical ,Optical and Dental section having both offices and surgery here
