The shop on the corner was a Cake shop in the 30″s. The car in Hartington Road stands at what was Guthrie”s Plumbers up until the 60″s. The shop next to the Newsagent was Robinson”s Chemist in the 50″s & 60″s.
The shop next to the paper shop on the left at one time was a Cobblers shop a man called Mr Green his daughter Theresa worked on the counter we took all our shoes to him he was a very good Cobbler
I worked in the Newspaper shop, 1974-1976 when it was GMC News. Had some good laughs with Carol the owners daughter and met some great characters, like Mr Tingle from the Chemists and lots of people from Hartington Road which was bedsitland.
