It’s known as ‘Winpenny House’ these days, and has the facade ‘plastered’ with inappropriate sign-boards that advertise the many individual businesses that operate within. These range from travel-agent to tattooist, bridal wear to a restaurant /bar!
I don’t know if my memory is playing tricks or not – but was there once a private nursery held on the ground floor of this house? I ask because in 1952 or early 1953, my mother had cause to send my sister and I to school and we were too young to attend primary school at that time. For some reason, I have it in my head that this was the very place, and that there was a large garden with big trees in, which we were allowed to climb. I would be grateful to be corrected on this score.
I can remember Frank Houseman being at this address because he married my Nan Fenny. He used to paint scenes and portraits! I can remember being with my Dad he was so happy to be home. I remember my Uncle Derek building a canoe that he paddled down the Tees that sunk!
My grandad is buried in the cemetry there he fought in WW1 but I never got to meet him as he died before I was born.
Does anyone have anymore information about the Fenny family? Greatly appreciated.
William Francis Fenny is my 3rd cousin.
Margaret Fenny – grandmother b1881 d1962.
Thomas Fenny – great grandfather b1852 d1922.

My Grandfather died leaving 2 sons, William Francis Fenny and John Derek Fenny.
This was my Nans house at 135 High street Yarm. The photo was taken by my Father William Francis Fenny in 1947.
