  1. My father,Alfred Illingworth, was a member of a Middlessbrough HAA Territorial unit before WW2. They mustered to Brambles Farm at or just before the outbreak of war. He must have been with the BEF as he came out at Dunkirk and went back in shortly after D day. I would be interested if anyone could add further to his military career.

    • Derrick. Did your father have a brother called Derrick too? Born in London?
I’m compiling my children’s family tree. Their father was David Illingworth, son of Derrick. I do know that both Derrick and Alfred were in the RAF near the end of the war and both were brought down behind enemy lines and put in concentration camps. If you think your father is the same Alfred as I am researching – please reply.

  2. This picture may be of interest to other Teessiders, it shows Gunner Joseph Kidd far right and other members of the Unit. It was taken outside the TA HAA Unit, The Drill Hall, The Erimus Middlesbrough and taken in 1938 preparing for war. They went to Tenby Wales to camp in 1939 and were mobilised immediatley upon there return from camp in September 1939. Many members of this Unit went to France with the BEF. Nothing is known of there fate.
