  1. I would be pleased to know if the bus in this picture is Wilkinsons of Sedgefield. When the William Newton School was built in the early days the girls were bused in from surrounding villages of Norton.
The school bus would be parked up all day near the sand quarry on Jameson Road until school finished in the afternoon. I had been off school with illness and became friendly with the driver “Tommy” who I would visit and keep company. He was a good chap and a loyal driver of Wilkinsons who even before the war ran trips abroad. The buses were always immaculate as shown in this picture which brings back these memories.

  2. Keswick, 1950 and a day out from the heat and grime of the boilershop, for these young workers. Riley Boilers in Oxbridge arranged annual day trips out during Stockton’s Race week in August, to such places as Scarborough, Whitby and the Lake district. No wives or girlfriends just plenty of booze, except of course for the two young boys pictured. Third from the left is John Rocks to his left is a man who went by the name of Blackie. Can anyone put a name to the other faces or indeed have any stories to tell about these annual events?
