Suspect Butchers was Allison’s – my grandfather’s – as he had an abatoir and was on the corner on the green as far as I can remember. Liked his black pudding. He lived down Chapel Road at Holly Mount ( now flats).
I lived in Weardale Crescent from 76/77 until the 80’s, I remember it well. I’m sure that is the butchers there with its own abitoir, remember more than once seeing pigs etc going in one door not to come out the other. I may be wrong.

You are right Angie, this used to be Lumleys I am almost sure. I will always remember the pigs squealing as they went into his abbatoir.
