  1. The young child in the photograph is, I believe, my Sister Valerie. My mum and dad (Ray & Catherine [Kitty Addison] Walton lived at No 10 when they got married in 1946 and later moved to No 6 where Valerie and myself were born. Oh what memories this photograph holds, and thankyou Anthony Bonner for posting it on the internet. My mums mother was a Bonner before marrying Robert Addison. You may also notice that Dave Addison has posted a comment from New Zealand, and he is also a well known family cousin.

    • A retraction from my earlier comment. It transpires that Valerie and myself were born at No. 10 Nile Street. NOT at No. 6.

  2. Thank you Tony Bonner for the great photos of Thornaby.I am living in Canada now and they certainly bring back some memories.Especially the one of Nile street as the house that is shown on Brittania Street as that is the house where I was born delivered by Granny Morgan. She was a lovely lady.We then moved to 21 Brittania Street. My Gran and Grandad Tate lived next door with my Great Granny Oakley. My Granny Chapman lived in Norton Place.Next door to her lived my Aunt and Uncle and Cousins The Fishburns.

  3. My uncle and aunt Ray & kitty Walton used to live in this street in the late 1940s early 1950s. My Gran and Grandad Addison used to live in the street behind Brittania street, also various uncles and aunties and half cousins such as Tony Bonner who is named on this page. So this photograph holds a lot of memories for me.

  4. Having recently lost both my parents I have been looking through papers and came across my Grandma Catherine King birth certificate from 4th April 1889 and discovered she was born in 6 Nile Street, South Stockton as it was known then. To view a picture of the Street where she was born was quite fascinating. Thank you

  5. Nile Street, taken in the early 50s. The first houses in the background are in Britannia Street, to the right and behind these is Edwards Street. The building on the right is the old fettling shop for Head Wrightsons foundry. My sister and brother in law, Jimmy & Shiela Huggins live in 4 Nile Street on the left. When the fettlers were working the noise in their house was all but unbearable. The fettling shop was later demolished and the canteen built on the site. I remember our house being full of balloons being blown up to be released at the end of dances held in the canteen. Another memory is of a play being presented there.
