The High Street is certainly not that busy any more. Well done to the photographer you managed to capture the start of the decline.
The old bus stop lanes on the High Street were indeed concrete, and I agree that this is what is seen under construction in the photograph.
The trench on the left appears to be containing new drains. However the light coloured concrete stuctures are a bit more puzzling. Perhaps it”s reinforcing for the bus parking areas. There”s some weight in those double deckers.
Could this be a 1939 Morris 12. My father had one I learned to drive in it. It looks around 1950″s as there is a Morris Minor on the left hand side. I dont remember the bus area being dug up.
