  1. I did not go to this school but I remember Margaret Spillsbury, I used to play with her as a child. My nan,
(Mrs Poole), had a shop in Ware St. We also used to play with Judith Mason – her parents had the funeral parlour on the corner of Norton Rd & Ware Street.

  2. Do you know the girls who passed the 11+ in the 1949, Sept scholarship year who went to the Secondary School and then Grangefield from the Tilery School?

  3. Janice & Irene sorry about the confusion, as I said in a subsequent thread my actual scholarship year was the school year commencing Sept 1950. Pat Ellis, Joan Agerskow, Dorothy Gill & Doreen Sixton did go to Stockton Secondary School (to become Grangefield Grammar in 1951) that September. Barbara Ashman & Margaret Marshall must have joined the class at the start of the 50/51 school year. Barbara & Mavis Bousfield were friends of mine as we lived in the same street (Craister). Should have got my facts right before I sent in the photo!!!

  4. Maureen, I”m sure that the date of this photo should be the first half of 1950. Joan Agerskow and Pat Ellis were both in my class starting in September 1950 at Stockton Girls” Grammar in Nelson Terrace. We moved the following September to Grangefield.

  5. I have just spotted brenda turner on this pic!! Are Margaret Marshall and Barbara Ashman on this pic as I am sure I was in the same class as them at Richard Hind? Oops – also Mavis Bousfield and a girl on the front row -Ann, or was it Pat Joyce? Fifty something years ago…

  6. In retrospect I think my scholarship year didn”t start until Sept 1950 as I started the brand new GGS in Sept “51. I can remember most of the girls names so here goes: Top row from l to r Marina Smart,?,Betty ?,myself,Joan Perry,Dorothy Gill,Doreen Smith,Sandra Denning,Enid Wood,Brenda Blenkinsop,Hazel Bean,Sheila ?,Jean Barker,Ann Creasor. Middle row from l to r Vera Smith,Ann Hill,Mavis Bousfield,Maureen Lowe,Pat Ellis,?,Janet Readman,Doreen Sixton,Joan Dennison,Pauline Ferguson,Mavis Whitehouse,Jean Armstrong,Joan Agerskow. Bottom Row from l to r Norma Blair,Joan Bowes,Margaret Spilsbury,Maureen Enderwick,Pat Thompson,Kaye Stephens,Brenda Turner,?,Pat Joyce,? Pattison,Marjorie ?,Joan Cornfield,Patricia Brown. Apologies if my memory has tricked me!!

    • Ann Hill was married to John Calvert a fitter at Head Wrightsons, Thornaby, who was a great guy but unfortunately died in his early forties, Janet Readman was married to another former Head Wrightsons man Jeff Allen who later opened his own engineering business.

  7. Miss A Guy was our excellent teacher who got about 7 of us through both exams & on to Grangefield Grammar & quite a lot more to Richard Hind. I believe she later went on to be head at Oxbridge Lane school.
