I once met Lita Rosa in a Pub and bought her a drink? on a dare, a Gin and Orange, I went over to her during a break at the Embassy Ballromms welling Kent she was with Dennis Lotis, no big deal but since you ask?
Fred Webster”s comments re “the Walfords” reminds me that Joan Walford has returned to live in Norton. She still has a good memory of her days in WW II when she was a senior officer in the WAAF and had responsibility for all the local barrage balloon sites. I am sure that she has many stories to tell if somebody cared to visit her?
I remember Lita Rosa also making an appearance at a garden party in the grounds of the “Walford”s” in Norton High Street when she was appearing in the area, a young and glamorous Lady Londonderry also attended the same party arriving in a sporty little VW type two seater, the date I think would be somewhere in the late 50s. I lived opposite at that time, great days and less traffic.
I believe this was taken in the grounds of “Norton Priory”, as Miss Nellie Brown a patron of both Stockton and Thornaby Hospital, Red-Cross and the Nursing Assocation was very persuasive in attracting stars from “The Globe” to her Open-Day , photos exist of the “Television-Toppers”dancers at a similar Charity-Day in these grounds
What a wonderful photo of Lita Rosa who started out with the great Ted Heath band many years ago along with Dickie Valentine.I saw the band at Blackpool and at the Maison in Stockton and have quite a number of the bands CDs. Pity there are only a few like them still around and they dont bother to come to this part of the country.
